Think about it. Everything we have, do, say or move is always measured and quantified. Everything. From the amount of minutes we’ll spend in a seminar, to the number of hours we spent having fun while hanging out with friends, the number of people that attended our weddings, the required liters of water needed to make our favorite pasta, the length of our trousers and clothes, number of minutes before the bus arrives, what our salary can afford, amongst numerous other examples all show the multitudes of numbers we have around us.
We’re surrounded by numbers. As sharecare puts it, the average adult when and while taking or having a rest inhales and breathes out about 7 or 8 liters of air per minute! That makes it a total of 11,000 liters of air per day!
The average night sleep is 8 hours that is a third of a day. It is a fact that one sleeps for a 3rd of one’s lifetime, hence, a man of 30 has slept for about 10 years of his life. A woman of 75 has probably spent 25 years of her life snoring away in bed without her knowing! Lol. These numbers are as hot as they come, I mean, the sun is 149.6million kilometers from the earth, yet, we still feel extremely hot when it peaks. Seeing the distance it is from the earth and the effect it has when it comes to play, one wonders what would’ve happened had it been at 140million kilometers. Maybe we wouldn’t be here!
How many times have you fiddled with a paper? I’m sure you’ve been bored to your bits once a time that you started to subconsciously fiddle with papers, folding them to your heart satisfaction but did you know that you can’t fold a paper more than 9 to 12 times as said by Relatively interesting? Try it! Do you know it even has a formula? Wonderful!
There are 10 billion galaxies in the observable universe. The number of stars in a galaxy is different but if we assume that each galaxy has 100 billion stars, it’ll mean that there are 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 stars in the observable universe. Try calling that figure. Maybe 1 billion trillion will help! A single cloud can weigh more than 1 million pounds. Do you know that for every human being that is existent on God’s green earth, there are 1.6million ants? Next time you see a colony of ants in a convoy, remove your cap for them, they deserve your respect. So funny. They have the numbers!
Take any number. Yeah, that trivia. Have you done that? Multiply that number by 3. Now proceed to add up the digits of the new number. Whatever number you start with, the result it’ll give will always be divisible by 3. Let’s put this to test.
Think of a number. Say, 68. Multiply by 3 and we’ll get 204. If we add 2+0+4, we’ll get an answer of 6. And 6 is divisible by 3. Magic? Haha. Let’s give it one more shot. The number is 1231. Multiplied by 3 and we’ll get 3693. 3+6+9+3= 21. 21 is divisible by 3! The magic show ends! Since we’re talking numbers, do you know that Greeks and Romans, despite the enormous achievements they registered in areas of civilization and innovation, they still never used the number 0? Shocked? What then will you be when you find out that you have 26 bones in your feet? Or that the average human brain contains around 78% water? How many alphabets are there in the language of English? The number seems to have eclipsed me but I can remember that Hawaiian alphabets have 13 letters. Just 13.
Being a millionaire is one dream almost everyone has. How about being a millionaire in 27 days with this very easy trick? Start with $0.01 dollars. Double the amount as the days goes by. You’ll be a millionaire on day 27! See? So easy! Easy is far away from the complex and uniform systems that make up our body. There are 60,000 miles of blood vessels in the human body! This is more than 2 times the size of the 29,800 miles Pan-American Highway from Prudhoe Bay in northern Alaska to Ushuaia in Argentina which, according to the Guinness Book of Records is the longest road in the world! So we’re all walking with vessels twice the size of the world’s longest road! That is massive.
These numbers around us keep leaving our mouths open. Opened because we need to breathe! It is said that we breathe an average of 8,409,600 times a year. Not too bad, is it? Talking of something being bad or not, few things can compare to taking the life of a human in evil. It is the most dehumanizing and diabolical thing to do. What if they died as a result of coconut? About 150 per year are killed by coconuts!
The world we know today isn’t what it was centuries ago. The obvious technological advancements aside the numbers around the population we have now aren’t the same as what we had centuries ago. These numbers have been projected to increase further as the world population is expected to hit 10.8billion in 2080. New babies will be born. Life will sprout from every pore of available fertility. Each of these babies will have 300 bones at the time of their birth. It’ll continually shrink to 206 as they outgrow being babies into adulthood. This might sound unbelievable but we’re 1% shorter in the evening than we are in the morning. There must be something about the evening that we don’t know of.
Despite the penetrative nature of technology and its very obvious ambassador, phones, they’re still huge deficits that need correction and filling in. This is because more than 50% of those who live in the world have never or ever received a call. This might be surprising that you’ll be forced to want to sneeze in bewilderment. The stronger bewilderment is finding out that sneeze actually travels more than 100 miles per hour. 10% of the entire world population is left-handed so don’t be shocked if, after strolling into an eatery for a meal, you meet someone who eats with the aid of his/her left hand, don’t get so shocked.
Numbers. Look around you! They are everywhere! Look!
