You walk into math class and sigh. It’s the last period before school ends. You try concentrating in class. You try asking your teacher for guidance. But for some reason, you and math problems just don’t go well together.
And that’s okay. Not everyone is naturally good at math. But that doesn’t mean you can’t get there!
Here are a few great ways to conquer math problems and become one of the top students in your class:
Always Solve the Easy Math Problems First
This may seem like a no-brainer, but a lot of people forget this, especially during high pressure circumstances.
Trying to solve complex equations first will waste time, as you’ll keep erasing your answers and wrack your brain for a solution you don’t currently have. All of this means you’ll spend more time focusing on solving the problem.
It’s better to get the hang of things first by solving easy equations. You’ll also understand the basics better this way.
Use Flashcards for Formulas
One of the easiest ways to memorize formulas is by using flashcards. Ask a friend to help you out with this. The best part is that flashcards are designed to accommodate every type of learner.
So, if you’re a visual learner, you’ll have an easier time memorizing formulas. The good thing about math is that it’s immensely structured. Everything becomes easier once you have basics like formulae memorized.
You can start by placing all the flashcards on the floor. Challenge yourself and see how many formulas you can memorize under a minute. Then write them down on a piece of paper.
Ask your friend to check how many you’ve gotten right. This is a fun way to learn because you’re challenging your brain.
Think Outside the Box
Is there another way to solve the problem? Is there more than one method you can apply? Don’t stick with one method. See if there are other techniques you can use.
The point is to get the right answer. Make sure you’re not skipping important steps and you’re good to go!
Which method works best for you? Which one is easier to work with? Just because it’s math doesn’t mean you can’t get creative with the solutions!
